ABOUT THE ARTIST
Maryse Ménard is a professional visual artist based in Sainte-Thérèse, Québec. She grew up in Montreal, in a family where art and culture played a central role. From a young age, she was deeply influenced by the work of her mother, a painter who attended the École des Beaux-Arts de Montréal during the Refus Global movement.
Holding a bachelor's degree from the School of Design at UQÀM, she has pursued a multidisciplinary career as an industrial designer, ceramist, and jewelry designer. Since 2020, she has fully dedicated herself to abstract art, a practice that blends intuition, research, and materiality.
She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including the international fairs Seattle Art Fair and Affordable Art Fair in New York, under the representation of her permanent gallery, Artêria. Her works are now part of the public collections of the cities of Sainte-Thérèse, Boisbriand, and Sorel-Tracy.
ARTISTIC APPROACH
My artistic approach explores the interaction between gesture, material, and space. Abstraction allows me to capture the movement and raw energy of a gesture at a precise moment, striking a balance between technical rigor and creative freedom. Inspired by the currents of Automatism and Expressionism, my work aims to be both contemporary and timeless, expressing emotion, movement, and depth.
My background in industrial design and fine crafts, including ceramics and jewelry design, deeply informs my creative process. These disciplines have provided me with a technical and sensory approach to material, imbuing my work with formal precision and expressive depth. Driven by a lively curiosity about materials and their potential, each creation results from a rigorous process supported by constant research, and is a fully-fledged plastic exploration.
My uniqueness as a visual artist lies in the fusion of discipline and sensitivity, between premeditated reflection and creative impulse. It is in this tension that my works take shape: both free and structured, sensitive and assertive.
Thus, my artistic practice becomes a dialogue between gesture and material, a search for balance between mastery and spontaneity, inviting an immersive experience open to interpretation.
